Blood Type

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Praetor-Vong, 26 May 2005.

  1. I have given blood and I was under the impression that I have a universal blood type, a type that is in demand. I lost my blood donor card thus I am unsure what my blood type is. Does anyone know if I could contact the American Red Cross or someone other than my docotr (dont have one right now) to determine my blood type?

One of my co-workers cousins, or something like that, is desperate need of a rare blood type and since I think I am universal, it would help.

    Here is the story...
I don't know how many of you even know this, but Matt is going to have back surgery on June 7th. They are putting rods in his back to hold him up straight. This will help him in a lot of ways by taking pressure off his heart, lungs and other organs, helping with back pain - and best of all to him, making him 2-3 inches taller just by holding him up.

I am writing you for two reasons - first to request prayers for his surgery and recovery. It is about an 8 hour surgery and his recovery will be difficult...but well worth it in the end.

And second - to ask if there is anybody out there with B- Blood Type who would be willing to give a pint between now and the May 31st? That is the cut-off date to be able to process the blood and transfer it to the hospital in time.

This is a rare blood type and in great demand. They need 8 pints of blood and, so far, I am the only person I know with his blood type. It probably comes as no surprise that he and I are UNUSUAL. : )

If you want more information, call me at 214-912-6547 or email me at judy_remus@hotmail.com. If you want to do a directed donation, I have to call Carter Bloodcare to add you to our list and can give you the information that you will need to make sure it is credited correctly. If you want information about locations and hours of operation near you, go to www.carterbloodcare.org or call

    1-800-366-2834.

I know that Matt will get what he needs one way or the other. God always takes care of us that way...always. It would just really help with the supplies for other patients if we could come up with donors - and I would love knowing that he had a bit of any one of you in him.

Thanks for everything. You always see us through.

    Love ya,

    Judy

  2. The universal bloodtype is O- I think.. O can replace A, B and AB and the - means it's lacking whatever element the - and + stand for so that it isn't there to be harmful. But dont' take my word on it.

  3. actually O pos is universal. I know because I have it. I think its been a couple months since I have given blood so I wouldn't mind setting something up. I'll email ya

  4. I'd call Carter Blood Care and ask them if they can test you.

  5. i am not allowed to donate blood. because i lived in germany during the 80's, hence, possible i might have that disease, what the hell, crazy bovine (mad cow)

btw, A- for me, so wouldn' match anyways.

  6. A+ but I have had recent ink/steel implants, so Im out. Sorry. :(

  7. O positive blood here too... I'll call the canadian Red Cross in the morning and ask them if I can do a transfer of blood to the states.. I may not be able to give though due to certain..um.. sexual acts. :/

    I'll keep you posted.

  8. Full Otto

    Full Otto Chain Gun Madman

O- is universal, my wife has it and gives blood all the time. The Red Cross calls her all the time to give blood. Her sister is as well and if one of her brothers would have been they would have been in the Gueniss (sp) book of world records because both parents where O+ and that would have been super rare.

O+ is normal (most people are O+) which is what I am. My wife had to have shots during her pregnacies because the babies blood could mix with hers and killed her.

  9. i am b+ :( wish i could of helped :( i will talk to the hubby and find out what he is though ..however, i am thinking he is an o of some sort.. the + o think..

  10. I am A+. However I had a tattoo done on me a year ago. I dont know if that matters. I dont even know if my blood would help. I dont get the A, B, O, + and - thing. Let me know if I can help in any way.

  11. Thank you for all your responses. This is not an issue that pertains to me personally...I don't even know the person that needs help. He just happens to be the son of a co-workers mother's friend. Plz no jokes about the line of acquaintance...yeah it's a stretch, but this is a serious matter.

Even though I don't know this person, that doesn't matter to me. The way I see it, if we don't help each other...what good are we? Thus, I posted this. CDL is like family to me...even though I haven't played with any of you for a while now, y'all still made me feel welcome and part of the group. All of your caring hearts and good nature is what inspires me to have faith in our society...it's no joke.

For those of you wishing to help, contact your neighborhood Red Cross. Even the blood doesn't get to this particular individual, there's always a need somewhere. I give blood religiously.

For those of you who want to help this particular individual, please contact Judy. Here is her email: judy_remus@hotmail.com
