So I took some pics of the flooding we are starting to experience up here in MA. We've got 15 inches of rain this weeknd alone and the river is expected to crest about 10 feet above flood stage. Here are some pics of the river, and a parking lot just beside the river.

^ There are usually about 5 flights of stairs leading to the shore.

^ Ahh raw sewage on the legs.

    ^ Roads are closed everywhere

^ The house on the left is under about 5 feet of water, and the police are blocking a bridge that's been closed. The water is just a few inches underneath it now, normally about 9-12 feet under.

The flood wall in the last 2 pics was constructed in the 40's after downtown was flooded under about 20 feet of water, so far its holding up but only a few feet to go until it pours over the top. All the bridges but 1 are closed in our town, and they are talking about closing the last one.

All and all its crazy - worst I have ever seen around here. There are plenty more stories like this all up and down the Merrimack River.

EDIT: Forgot to mention the local sewage treatement plant has failed and is leaking millions of gallons of raw sewage into this river.

We were parked on the high ground, I could not believe the idiots driving around in the water

Overall we don't live very close to the water and dont have any family that do. But my mom's bf's boat was not in the water yet it was on shore on stands. Yesterday it lifted off teh stands and is now in the river tied off to some trees. We are hoping that it doesent get to badly damaged with all the random things floating down river.

Many docks broke free complete with all the boats still attached to them, not a good situation.

Hamma, I would suggest you and jen boil any tap water you use. Probably be best to get bottled water until they resolve the sewage issues. Stock up on about two weeks worth of water if that is possible.

Our drinking water comes from a lake a few miles inland from the river - so we have been good on that front :D

Some other towns along the river though are under boil water orders.

  16. These are the times I am glad to be on the high ground in my town... as it is, I'm on the top of a hill, and walking in my yard makes that "squish" sound as if you were walking through a swamp.

Stay safe Hamma, if you need anything - yell!

Hope it all stays away from all of you.

We have old train tracks in the back (they are below the level of our basement)...so as long as they are kinda dry, I feel good.

Yesterday there was a small river running down them...this morning it went up 2 inches. If it doubles in debth, I will worry, but I am sure it will not happen (as it is just runoff and not a river).

One guy at work lost his basement to 5 feet of it...and another lost his car (to the roof)
