Could there be a sequel coming?

  1. Everybody's been wondering about this for who knows how long, but nobody's been sure whether it will happen. Since the release of the Brood War expansion for StarCraft, the saga has been relatively quiet despite numerous attempts to try and make something else to continue its universe...

Now just recently in London, at the Burning Crusade UK Launch, the developers have teased fans about it again :)

People should remember that it has been nearly 10 years since StarCraft's release (the story began in 1998), so the release of a sequel next year would not be unprecedented from someone like Blizzard.

That would make my day... that or World(s) of Starcraft ;)

I remembering years ago hearing that if it were to be released that it would be the first PC game to break the $100 barrier.

....dunno if that will be true....but god knows I'd sell my kidney to get it.

  4. Blizzard is concentrating on its cash cow known as WoW right now. Why produce a new game when your current game is breaking every record PC games have ever set? I'd imagine we can expect a world of starcraft when world of warcraft starts to fizzle out. When that will be, nobody knows.

  5. Hopefully tommarow

  6. Because no sane developer would ever want to simply make a single of their franchises great, they'd want them all to be like that. Such is the way of competitive business.

Look at Sony Online Entertainment. Everybody knows online games have bugs (especially theirs), but they have the license to base them franchises for The Matrix and Star Wars and haven't done too bad with them either, revenue-wise.

With so many RTSs coming out recently, they are going to have to do a lot of innovating to beat the competition. Since a lot of the lead developers left Blizzard, I wonder if they will be able to live up to their expectations. Either way, I am sure it is going to go from StarCraft 2 to World of Starcraft three or four years after StarCraft 2's release.

  8. loved starcraft, would love to see something else :) i still have my starcraft!!! have not played in ages, but i used to adore it to peices ;)

  9. True, but WoW has a deathgrip hold on millions of people. To introduce another MMO would most likely reduce the WoW population, and even though blizzard is still getting money from the people who switch, it is smarter management to milk one cash cow dry and then introduce a new one.

We are talking about MMOs right? I am talking about an MMO starcraft possibility. Not Starcraft 2.

  10. Well, if Starcraft 2 is actually released by 2008 as guessed, then we probably won't see a Starcraft MMO until 4-5 years later. By then WoW should lose it's stranglehold.

I just don't see them modeling their Starcraft MMO against Planetside. Would it be the awesomeistsuperdupergreatestthingsinceslicedbread? Of course it would. But we're a rather small population (MMO related) who thought that Planetside was a great concept and game. Most of us played right up until the premier of the BFRs. That's 2 years of playing a game most people feel failed right at the start.

Could they look at the Planetside model and see where SOE went wrong? Sure they can. I'm pretty certain that all the major software companies keep tabs on each others games just as much as they keep theirs under wraps. It's almost like the cold war, except instead of countries, we're talking software titles.

I'm going to have to agree with Hamma on this one. They've got a patented money maker model in WoW. Why break that which is not broken?

  13. Because the term "broken" does not denote anything about the term "sucking goat testicles through a straw".

  14. I think the problem was PS's story changed after those two years; mainly because all the devs we know and loved weren't getting their way, so they left. There is something similar to the BFRs in Starcraft -- the Goliath, but it was there from the beginning.

As long as they have everything true to the RTS in there from the launch I won't be bothered. Always wanted to drive one of those :)

Peace is right, otherwise most of you would've stayed with WoW and just saluted LOTRO instead of wanting to switch to it.

  15. /me prays

If they just cookie cutter WOW into space they will probably gain a few hundred k subscribers that didnt like WoW because it was warcraft. Any other subs to WoS will probably be people who move from WoW.

  16. Not sure what to make of this. If it is going to be another Starcraft they're going a strange way about it:

If it isn't, however, it would be a real slap in the face to fans. Ever since Starcraft: Ghost was put on indefinite hold they've placed a ban on fans making a mod. In essence, not only would they be refusing to make a new thing for the franchise, but they are also preventing anybody else from doing so either.

But I'll guess we'll find out Friday.

  17. Fans have noticed that a recently-established address, starcraft2.com redirects to Blizzard's timeline they've been running...

Only a few hours left to go!
