The sound you just heard was my jaw dropping to the floor.

    Hopefully this isn't a teaser for a 360 game. I'll be PIIIISSSEEEDDDDDD.

It does say on the website Platform: PC

But anyways, hopefully this will be multiplayer with tons of customization.

You know how you guys reminisce about Planetside and Tribes, well I never had a chance to play those as we were backcountry and had slow ass dialup.

But I did play something before those and it was a little game put out by FASA through the AOL service called "Battletech" basically a FPS and you had small 3 colored arenas and you fought your mechs, usually in 3vs3 and 5vs5 battles, even had some ariel combat as well as the smaller mechs had jump packs. That was my 1st graphics based online multiplayer game, previously it was all about the BBS's and MUD's.

Man, to me that was the highlight of my gaming days, then after it became so popular AOL decided to start charging for it, something like $1.99 or maybe $2.99 an hour on top of the $19.95 a month for AOL, hell I would spend 8+ hours a day playing that, no way a 14yr old kid could pay $24+ a day to play that. Nevertheless they lost probably 99.5% of the playerbase when they started charging for it.

Hmmm, that was 14 years ago, I can still remember staying up till 3am in the morning running battles...good times....They had the classic clan system and pubs for organizing battles and all that good stuff, yalls Planetside had nothing on that monotone arena battles :rawr:

    haha Kali!

I remember that beast of online gaming.. interesting times those were.

  9. You're assuming of course its in-engine. If it's not it could be a huge letdown for fans when they find the gameplay is completely different.

  10. Thus my "This better deliver. . . " comment.

  11. For those with Crysis sitting around gathering dust, the total conversion mod MechWarrior: Living Legends is out in beta form, I even dug out my old Sidewinder 2 Joystick that I played MW2 with.

    LivingLegends looks pretty legit.

I'm still waiting for a BattleTech/MechWarrior themed game along the lines of Planetside.

I still remember playing the MechWarrior RPG and BattleTech tabletop... RPG meaning with like the rule books and stuff.

Then discovering the video games. I wrote up in this 5 subject notebook about how to make them better. Make them massively multiplayer (been done now) and allow infantry, armored infantry, tanks, mechs, aerospace fighters... everything. I don't know about you guys but combining eve with the massive ships and the fighting on the ground would be awesome. A lot like the guys who did EVE are doing with that new console game of theirs.

I still hope that game is made some day... Clans vs. IS. Clan vs. Clan. IS houses fighting each other... Still my favorite SF property.

Last Starfighters League did something similar back in the day, only they had someone who was a wiz at the web and databases keeping track of daily fights between the Imperials and Rebels, with the Smugglers Faction getting hired by either side.

The struggle consisted of a two game approach, Xwing vs Tie Fighter and Jedi Knight - Dark Forces.

Xwing vs Tie Fighter was used to conquer the space surrounding a planet. Jedi Knight was used once superiority was established on the planet.

    Scenario

The Imperial Task Force "Vengeance" has just jumped into the Tattoine system. It's being defended by Rogue Squadron and elements of the Jedi council.

First order of business is for the Imperial Squadron attached to "Vengeance" to attack Rogue Squadron. This was fought over the matchup rooms that Microsoft had (forgot what it was, but it was similar to Kali, without the expected lag). Each match was best two out of three. Each pilot would fight at least two matches. Winner of the fight would be the squadron that beat the other squadron. So, in this example, the fighters from ITF Vengeance beat Rogue Squadron 15-5. The Imperials would now have established space superiority and the ground attack would commence.

Once on the ground, the Jedi council would fight the Sith attached to ITF Vengeance in a game of Last Man Standing. Commonly 5v5 and best two out of three. Maps would be randomly chosen.

Now, let's say that the Jedi's kicked the Sith's butt. Now would commence another space battle, as it would be assumed that the Rebels would have radioed for reinforcements. A different Rebel squadron would now attack ITF Vengeance and the fight would start over.

In my mind, it was epic. And a whole lot of fun too.
