    Go to our server, Doomy.

Good thing I set the CDL server as a favorite the first day, Having a "favorite" was the only way the browser gave me a "play" button yesterday. Otherwise the browser refused to let me connect to any other server... So I finally did get to play a bit there when a spot opened up.

Then after an hour or so of play the game started randomly spawning me with no weapons haha so I went back to minecraft after that :p

Seems they fixed some of the keybinding issues at least, but not all of them so I'm limping along a bit. It also don't help that I don't know the maps at all, and basically I suck at FPS now after not playing them since T2 and a few months of bad company2 hehe.

Game is kind of fun but id still kill for something that had a good old school feel of T1/T2. These new FPS really don't seem very fluid at all in so many ways, and I find them aggravating to play but oh well, not many options out there.

  3. I understand your frustrations. My brain is still hard coded to the days of Q2\Q3 for fps's I've never really carried over that well to BF but I do fine in CoD games. I'm so use to clearing an area and working my way forward that I do not worry about covering my back so I can focus on what is in front of me. With these maps most are setup to allow the enemy to spawn or easily get in behind you so you get shot in the ass most of the time. That or you are getting sniped, shelled, or hammered by a tank\lav.

Its such a free for all to level up and unlock the good stuff right now that it will be a while before there are really fun enjoyable matches if ever. All you can do is keep pushing and keep the constant deaths from getting to you to much.

Asp's friendly tips for surviving BF3 without pulling your hair out..

    1. Hit prediction is client side, so there will be a LOT of firefights where you end up dead, even though you (and Han Solo) shot first.. This fact doesn't stop me from swearing about it btw.. ;)
    2. Running around blindly or near enemy areas is guaranteed to have you respawning quickly
    3. If you want some success, find places to lay in ambush (defensive maps are best), wait for them to come to you (see point above), rather than running into them and hoping you win the coin toss..
    4. ".. remember short controlled bursts" firing full auto is the best way to ensure you lose the shooting match, unless you're prone, bipod out and in a great ambush location.
    5. Narrow confined chokepoint areas will guarantee you some kills on defense, find areas and remember them for the future. (i.e. access tunnel on Metro)
    6. Arming/disarming gives points to your class kit, so if you can, do it you'll get to those new shiny weapons even quicker
    7. spending time in vehicles killing doesn't give points to your kit (rather your vehicle advancement), so if you need points to get a new weapon, do it by hand, not in a tank. :)

That is all for now :p

Be patient with it, focus on defense maps and covering your squadmates on offense; try to setup to get the enemy in your crosshairs rather than running around. Your confidence in the game will go up big time. Assault and Support are good classes for getting points for healing/ammo and for rezzing (Assault class)

Also, to add to Asp's list, work with your squad. There is nothing as powerful as a well coordinated squad working together, covering fire provided as you move, and your squaddies watching your back. Call out enemy troops in TS, call out enemy movement and generally, in short comms, give vital info to your teammates.

I am still working on the "short comms" aspect.

But if you work as a team, you can be very successful.

I'll catch on to it eventually like I did with bad company2, its just a bit much learning all the new maps and fighting the bugs at the same time hehe. At least I got this one at release and not 6 months after :D

Indeed, Doomy. I look forward to fighting alongside you once again!

  8. Kinda wished I'd never put BF3 on my Christmas List - now I have to wait until Dec. 25th before I can play the damn thing!

  9. ...following my complaints to my parents I've been able to appear to their better angels, so they've given me the game early. Don't expect this to happen for anything other than SWTOR I will be pre-ordering, however, as it's unlikely it will happen again.

  10. Well it seems our server went the way of the dinosaur

  11. It was still there last night. Just no pop. I try to populate it but it never gets above ten players.

Nope, sorry.. Server was let to die a few days ago. It had sat empty for a couple of weeks. No sense paying for an empty server.

  13. Fair enough.

  14. So, for those like me who can no longer connect to multiplayer or others who crash in singleplayer, DICE said that because of it coming up to the holidays they definitely won't be creating a patch before the New Year... this means that I probably won't be online again before January.

If they launch Back to Karkand like it's all systems go, however, I don't think people will be at all pleased with them.

  15. After getting tired of waiting for a useful response from DICE, I've contacted EA Techsupp to see if I get some help with why I can't connect. Hopefully I should receive a reply from them today or tomorrow; by which time they'll probably say they have no idea what's going on - anything but their fault

  16. Avast finally gave me some pointers of how to play without turning off my firewall, and I've been able to connect. I won't be on tonight too late but will be around if the CDL needs me.

  17. Who would've ever figured that after Nov 22nd, it would take three whole months before I had a game that didn't crash, lag or graphically grind to a halt. I'd like to bitch but, personally, I'm just glad that BF3's performance hangover is finally over and done with.

Perhaps now I can rank up good and proper again.
