What ship/ships did you buy and why?

I am relatively new to the whole star citizen thing (one month i think? perhaps two) and I see so many different ships that have been released (a lot you can't buy anymore) and I was wondering what everyone got and what their basis was for that ship?

I got a freelancer. Love how it looks even though it was a bit more money than I was planning on spending. I am happy wandering around in the hangar and looking at it. I am planning for exploration and the fact that this has the jump engine stock was another selling point for me.

  2. I've had one of just about every ship at some time or another as I traded them around, but I've settled into the following:

Freelancer- The first ship I ever wanted in the game. I'll get the DUR exploration variant when it's available and boldly go where no man has gone before.

Starfarer- It's my logistics moneymaker. We got a great big convoy and all that.

350R- It's just damn Smexy. It's my solo cruisin' mobile

I plan on adding one or 2 more ships to my roster before launch, but it depends on many factors:

F7CM Superhornet- It's my favorite pure fighter and I wish I'd kept one. I keep hearing rumors and rumbles that they're going to be available one more time. It may not stay a pure fighter as I'd like to turn it into a 2-seater AWACS unit.

RSI Orion- If it doesn't cost toooooo much I'd really dig a dedicated mining ship

I snagged a 325a when I could still get it with LTI. I don't see myself hiring out or crewing my own ships (though I'll probably join other crews myself) so I wanted a single-seater, and I wanted something I could reliably dogfight with but wasn't so devoted to dogfighting that I couldn't do anything else. Otherwise, I'd have gotten a Hornet. The 325 was everything I wanted minus the jump drive, which I'll add later.

To supplement that, I plan on picking up on of the Freelancer variants for dedicated exploration. Again, not heavily crewed, so I can solo it.

Good call, I am debating between the 325 and the hornet as my secondary ship! Definitely going to change my freelancer over to the explorer variant when it becomes available.

  5. hmm, where to start:

I got the hornet cause one it is sexy, and I wanted a pure fighter
the aurora I got so I always have a starter and than when the mustang came out, I have it for that.
the retailiator, sent and I decided to go in on one so we had a little more umph for the group
the gladiator I always wanted one, so when it came back, I had to have it, it gives me a little more stopping power
the starfarer, I wanted a money maker.
cutlass gives me a little more jack of all trades kind of veichle
Xi'an scout gives me recon possibilities, and allows me to chant one of us, one of us

  6. I have three ships currently, I had a freelance, hornet, gladiator, and starfarer at one point. The current ships I have give me a rounded experience and each have their roles.

    1. Banu Merchantman - The same reason others have gotten a starfarer, This is my long range heavy cargo ship. Heavy being a relative term, I want it to be my millennium falcon, it can haul whatever I need, but can also get away from those pesky solo Idris players.

    2. Xi'an scout - "One of us" This is my hunting ship, i was extremely aroused by the thought of all those maneuvering thrusters. I like the thought of me hiding behind an asteroid and rolling out to get behind a pirate or any other unsavory type person.

    3. 315p - This is my safe ship. I will fly around exploring when I am drunk and see the far ends of the universe(not using verse because that's overplayed by this point.) This is my extra ship that I will be ok if it gets destroyed.

*The only other ship that I really want is the Drake Herald. This ship is described as an information runner. Not 100% sure what that means, but i feel like that will provide me with some interesting game-play and will have some ability to specialize in electronic warfare, which I hope that I can specialize in.

  7. Much like Khorne I have owned almost all the ships at least once (sometimes more) but traded them in. I currently sit on

Freelancer: Waiting variants sitting on the fence on the military or explorer model.

Banu MM: The visuals sold me on this one and I needed a hauler and I am very curious to what this ship will be able to be outfitted for

Xi'an Scout: My only current pure military ship, serves as a scout /light fighter

Also I have my eye on the Gunship, since while I am a competent pilot, I rate myself a better FPS player and would prefer to make my mark in boarding/ground combat more then dog fighting, so your more likely to find me in space combat in the larger vessels being more of a hammer then a scalpel.

I like the idea of flying out in front of the fleet to do recon of the surrounding area. Which is why I got my Tracker.

Scrub and I talked about getting the Retaliator (aka Pork Chop Express) to add some punch to our fleet.

You know what Jack Burton always says "Like I told my last wife, I sez Honey, I never drive faster than I can see, and besides that, it's all in the reflexes."

Also man I am really bummed that I missed the opportunity on some of these cool ships.

  10. Super hornet because I wanted a dedicated fighter and it has the capacity for a better power plant and starts with a jump drive.

Cutlass because I was thinking of piracy but now I might end up turning it. Into a mining/exploration craft maneuverability combined with built in tractor beams would be very handy for getting valuable ore out of a dense asteroid field.

Gladiator because I wanted to have something that could punch big ships in the face.

Caterpillar because I loved its look. I am thinking I could set it up as a med ship/repair ship to assist the dragon wolves in post conflict scenarios. No need or us to lose people or have a ship stuck due to excessive thruster damage. Could also be a mining hub ship.

THE CATERPILLAR! oh man that is a pretty ship! If that ever goes on sale again I am going to buy one.

  12. Aurora LN: Wanted one as a starter ship, something small to mess around with that had a little more firepower.

    Constellation:
Was my first pledge ship. Excited for the snub fighter that's within the hull, and wanted it for the cooperative play and general mercantile and exploration.

    Horner F7C-M:
Dedicated fighter with a beefier power plant, and I plan on trying to make it a radar ship by swapping out the turret for the radar package the tracker has. One person can fly, the other dedicated to intel.

315p/325a/350r: Love the design of these ships, and all the proposed roles for them. I plan on doing a bit of everything :)

Avenger: I wasn't a fan of the ship at first, but then after it hit the hanger and got the PBR update, plus the crawl space between the rear cargo section and the cockpit, I really wanted it. I'll probably use it more as a fighter than anything else when I'm not using the Hornet.

Idris M: Oh god my bank account. I always wanted to have some sort of small carrier craft and I managed to snag one during the November 2012 live stream event. Then it got bigger. Now it's a frigate.

Freelancer: Again, got this one for mercantile purposes, and long range exploration.

Starfarer: I plan on getting a refinery module that they've talked about and making my own fuel harvesting/refining ship.

Cutlass: Boarding! Something about cutting through the hull of a pirate craft and taking it by force sounds pretty appealing. Additionally the number of thrusters this thing has sounds like it could be a good candidate for exploration and plotting jump holes.

Do you keep selling/buying/trading for them? I had a stealth hornet but i melted it for the freelancer.

  19. I keep melting them for other ships. One Freelancer went to my Caterpillar, another went to my Starfarer, etc.
