The Stomping Land

Backed this on Kickstarter last year. It's getting a Steam early access release on May 30th. The video looked amazing, so I thought I'd share.

    - When can I hunt dinosaurs?

    • - Early Access will be available for Kickstarter backers on May 23, and Steam codes for these backers will be sent out soon via Kickstarter messaging. Everyone else will be able to jump in on the 30th. Both of these dates are pending until Steam approves the submitted build.
    - How much will The Stomping Land cost?

    • - $24.99
    - What about the Dinosaur Survival Guide?

    • - The survival guide is just waiting on the remaining dinosaur artwork. I'll have a detailed update for all that.
    - How will servers work?

    • - There will be a small handful of official servers, though most servers will be hosted by the players, similar to Minecraft or TF2. If you are a backer and interested in running your own dedicated server, or would like to offer hosting options for others, contact:Lee@TheStompingLand.com
    - What dinosaurs will be in the initial launch?

    • - Styracosaurus, Carnotaurus, Gallimimus, Puertasaurus, Helicoprion, Ankylosaurus, Stygimoloch. The remaining dinosaurs will roll out as its asset/animation are completed
    - The video is styracosausome, but what about livestreams??

    • - The best livestreams are with people who are new to the mechanics, so you'll definitely be seeing a lot of them around the 23rd.
    - How big is the island?

    • - The game will launch with Capa Island, which is a smaller alternative to the seen Wayneth Island. Despite being smaller, there is plenty to get caught up in along the way, including varying types of caves that you are guaranteed to get lost in, 2 lakes, 2 long rivers, random fields, lots of forest, and a volcano(with its own lava cave). The surrounding ocean itself also provides gameplay for fishing/hidden caves.
    - What's all this cave talk?

    • - Caves are a key component to the gameplay, especially in pvp. Not only do they house the herbs you need to heal dinosaurs or allies, but they also randomly scatter shrines that will boost your hunter's Expertise. Hunters who capitalise on these shrines will find themselves befriending tougher dinosaurs faster. Alongside its perks, caves are also deathtraps; without a torch, they are 100% darkness(wall hugging won't even save you). Weapons can't be used while holding a torch, so if you run into trouble, your torch must be temporarily dropped. There is also plenty of water holes in caves that will sneak up on your step.
    - If I lose my torch, can't I just craft another one?

    • - Currently, hunters don't have any imaginary inventory. If you want to collect wood or another resource, you must physically pick it up and place it where you want. Resources can be stacked together into boxes and you can drag the boxes where you want, but your actual player cannot store heavy materials in a 'backpack'. Anything light, such as foliage, gems, and even small meat, can be hand-placed onto your model with the customization system. So if you lose your torch in a cave, start calling for help!
    - Will there be mod support?

    • - At the very least, there will eventually be custom map making. Even I am looking forward to those!
    - What kind of updates can I expect once Early Access is available?

    • - Now that the core dinosaur survival template is in place, we'll move forward with updates based on a mix of accuracy and entertainment value. What is the next step to improving this dinosaur survival experience? Complex dinosaur AI? More survival needs? A seasaw? The intriguing aspect about survival games is that there is plenty of room for construction, so your discussions and feedback hold lots of value to us.
    - jig, this game is hard ;(

    • - Be strong, fellow hunter

  2. You can tie people up, drag them around, and then put them in a cage.

Played SP for about an hour. I think I've got the hang of it.
Here's some recipes for you if you're wondering how much of what you need to do something.

  5. Will not buy if it does not have a Cerebral Bore

  6. Do we have our own Stomping Land server I was watching a twitch stream and the guy said he was joining "Dragonwolves CDL" server?

Pretty fun game so far. I'm enjoying it. Especially the part of me running through the bush and then being trampled by an Ankylosaurus.

  9. Some of you were asking about a road map. Here's the current one:

The Stomping Land is live for backers! May 23rd

    Grab your spears, hunters!

The project may have a year under its belt, but today marks day one of the most important time for development. The days of 5 man testing is now history and broad-scale feedback will provide plenty of information, both technical and creative, on how to move forward with the game.

    So what's on the roadmap?

    - Dinosaur AI. Aside from fixing the unknown that will require attention upon the first week of testing, there is plenty in the works that will define The Stomping Land in the long-run. The boldest of all of these goals is dinosaur AI. One of my primary motivations behind starting this project was to be able to create realistic and engaging interactions between both the players and dinosaurs, and the dinosaurs with each other. There was plenty on the back-end that had to be fulfilled first, such as creating a persistent online world that can support dynamic AI, and now that these technical elements are in place, we can start to experience the crafting of these dinosaurs' intelligence as they get made. In time, it is my ambition that the dinosaur interactions alone will define The Stomping Land as a truly unique experience. So as you jump in game today, keep in mind that the AI elements that currently exist are there only as a technical foundation for this craft.

    - Custom maps. The Stomping Land launches with a single map, Capa Island, which provides solid grounds for the various elements of the game. But history in multiplayer gaming shows that mods are a huge factor in the value of these experiences. So streamlining the process of allowing modders to create their own islands with dinosaurs is a certain on the to-do list.

    - Simply, things to do. Survival games are all about choices, so adding both objective and casual choices will collectively create unique experiences every life. Eg Expanding crafting, new buildings, survival needs, tribal dances etc.

    - A centralized server. Currently The Stomping Land holds character information by each server as players join them. By hooking up a centralized server, it will be both easier to makes updates and keep character data safer from hacks or exploits.

    - A female character model is a big request, and is planned to be included.

    - 3 planned gamemodes: Survival(Default), Roleplay(Casual), Extinction(Lobby PVP)

Additionally, everything that is discussed on the forums gets seen, so feel free to drop in with any feedback.

While today's release is for backer tiers 55 and up, the remaining tiers will have your keys early/mid next week(which unlock on the 30th). Huge thanks to all of our backers for enabling this project to be developed up to this point and further. I hope you enjoy the elements of The Stomping Land and see the potential for what's ahead.

Anyone interested in hosting their own servers, be sure to visit our official server provider, BlackBoxServers.

    Thanks everyone, see you in-game!

  10. Also, the hotfix last night took out the command console to prevent abuse (the "Pause" thing, among others), so to connect to the server, just add the ip and port into the launch options for the game in Steam (Library, right-click The Stomping Land, Properties, Set launch options...)

    Here is our IP: 64.31.28.211:7797
I believe in the server list it should come up as "BB-[CDL] DragonWolves - The Stomping Land Server"
