  1. Yeah I saw that on my local news as well.

I'm just glad that the family is loving that child, instead of abandoning it because it isn't 'normal.'

  2. exactly..i'm very proud that we still have people in this country like that..and if i had any money i'd donate to them!

  3. To me there's too sides of that story. You know, it's great that the parents are supportive and the child has already shown them so much love. But at the same time, when is modern medicine too much? Not to compare human's to animals and please don't read this the wrong way, but when our dogs are old and sick and in pain and at the end of their lives, we often put them to sleep. We think it's the humane thing to do.

However, people suffering from incurrable diseases and in great pain with no real hope of recovery...instead of letting them go, we force them to try and live an extra 3 months using everything we can.

This little girl has undergone 17 surgeries already? She breathes with a trake and is fed through her stomach. She has another 30 some surgeries to look forward too? I wonder what her actual life expectancy is. Sure she seems happy and bright in that clip and I'm sure she is, but we haven't seen her first few months of life, nor her life after surgery. I'm not saying they should let her die or anything. I don't really know what I am saying. I hope the surgery is able to make her life a little easier.

  4. I agree completely with Rayzer on this one.

Congrats to the parents for keeping her, but if/when she does grow up and when she starts going to school she will have a very rough time trying to 'fit in' with the rest of the children.

I'm sorry but for me, this is forcing a child to suffer through life, and will possibly suffer through life for as long as she lives....

    God bless her.

So your basically saying it is better to kill her then let her suffer?

We are given the choice to euthenize an animal in extreme conditions. We are not given this choice on human beings - this child is not brain dead, this child is a thinking, loving, understanding human.

The human body has a way of stopping when it can take no more despite any advances in medicine. You discuss the surgeries - it is possible these surgeries are completely cosmetic in effort to make this childs life better in the future.

I guess my question is - who makes the moral decision when it is right to take a life and when it is not? Unfortunately we do not know this entire situation - we do not know the life expectancy, mental capability, or potential medical/reconstructive outcome. Either way - I dont feel it is our position to question these people decisions or devotion to sustaining life in their child.

  6. Two words. . . Home Schooling.

Besides, seeing as how she either can't talk at all, or it will be hard for her in the future, i'm sure only her parents will be able to understand what she's saying in "Class".

As far as the ethical thing and whatnot goes. I'm an Athiest. The whole "God sent us something to appreciate" thing doesn't apply to me. I'm a very scientific person when it comes to just about everything and there had to be some kind of genetic explaination for it. Screw religion. I'm sorry if i'm an insensitive prick, but if i had one. . . well. . . lets just hope that doesn't happen.

So sorry if i've offended anyone, but these are forums right? and i am entitled to my own opinion.

  8. Life is precious in any form, Plastic Surgery and Reconstructive Surgery have come very far and is extremely amazing in the 21st century, I have seen other reports of what they have done for other individuals. I believe that the plastic surgeons and the other medical staff will do everything possible to give that little girl every chance she has. I admire her family for not giving up on her and showing her the love and affection that she shows her parents.
This is a human life, Breathing, Living, and Loving the close people around her, She deserves every opportunity of having a life as anybody else. May God Bless her Parents for not giving up on the gift of life.

  9. Things happen to people -
It's easy to fall back on emotions and make snap decisions. It's heard to grasp the enormity of the situation unless you can see (experience) both sides of the story.

I have a slight insight to this as a relative had her ultrasound done and discovered her daughter's brain was growing OUTSIDE her skull.

Life is hard as is ..it would be challenging for her but at least she would have lived...In the end she will be much better having her face reconstructed and be a much strong and better better person then most people
