Destiny 2

Discussion in 'Upcoming Games Discussion' started by Hyncharas, 30 Mar 2017.

  1. So, today was the full anouncement that Destiny 2 is due for launch at the start of September.

"Why is he bothering us with this; we're not a console clan", says Hamma... the reason is because, this time, Destiny 2 is coming to PC as well:

All platforms are available in four flavours:
    • Standard
    • Digital Deluxe (incl. expansion pass and digital content)
    • Limited Edition (same as Digital Deluxe, but with physical gear)
    • Collector's Edition (same as Limited Edition, plus a messenger bag and some extra stuff)
The expansion pass is also available separately, for people who don't want to burn a hole in their wallets before 2018. To see what awaits you, visit https://www.destinythegame.com

Might actually give this a shot now since it's on PC

I'm definitely planning on picking this up when it comes out. Can't stand shooters on console, but really wanted to play Destiny.
  4. Just made it to Rank 6 of their final record book on Xbox One - only 16 milestones left so I can grab the T-Shirt with my name on it...

I have to reach Rank 7 by 1st August, but hope to complete the journey within a month.

    UPDATE 1: =

And DONE! I'll be ordering the t-shirt tomorrow.

  5. Today, Bungie put on a live show for their debut of Destiny 2, showing off multiple aspects of the game...

You can watch a replay of the livestream:

    And the Gameplay Launch Trailer:

Alternatively, I've made a list of all the features coming in the new game:

Welcome to a world without Light - The Tower is gone. With your connection to the Traveler (and the Light itself) severed, unearth new powers, seek out new gear and encounter new adversaries, as you fight to reclaim your home from Dominus Ghaul's Red Legion.

3 New Classes - Harness a new set of abilites for your Guardians...
    • Warlocks become Dawnblades, equipping them with a sword that can provide unmatched melee combat, area-of-effect attacks, or even unleash deadly Solar volleys from a distance;
    • The Sentinel grants Titans a Void shield that can disintergrate foes in close-combat, or take them out at range like Captain America.
    • The Arcstrider replaces a Hunter's knives with a powerful staff of Arc energy, making them a master of manoeuvrability as they tear through whole squads of enemies.

A Truly Open World - travel to any destination and activity without ever returning to orbit. The sandbox system has been completely redesigned, enabling players to fight missions where and what order they choose, seek out "Lost Sectors", and maybe even discover hidden secrets in their travels. None of this, of course, would be complete without a new map system to keep track of it all.

A New Strike and Raid - Destiny 2 will come with a brand new Strike, "The Inverted Spire", and a new Raid one month after release.

No More Restrictions - In the original Destiny, Trials of Osiris, Nightfall Strikes and Raids required custom Fireteams using LFG or Friends Lists only to play. But in Destiny 2, players will have full access to these game modes through Matchmaking.

Improvements to Crucible - ALL gametypes now support 4v4 combat and new game modes, including "Countdown"; an outpost-based attack and defence strategy.

4 New Locations - take the fight to the Darkness in four new locations...
    • EDZ: with Earth now conquered by the Red Legion, Guardians have retreated to the European Dead Zone to rebuild their forces until they can counter-attack.
    • Io: the last colony touched by the Traveler before the Collapse. Considered a holy site for Guardians, its strange beauty is outmatched only by the dangers that may lie in wait.
    • Titan: a moon surrounded by methane oceans, this lost refuge has lain dormant and neglected since the Collapse.
    • Nessus: mixing Vex architecture with a bountiful ecosystem, its rich jungles offer fresh challenges.
    Full Clan Support -
    • Create rosters to organise, upload custom banners that represent your image, and conduct Fireteam management all within the game itself.
    • A clan rewards system is now available, always sharing gear among friends whether you play solo, or in a Fireteam.
    • A new "Guided Games" mode allows clans to invite solo players to their party for discreet periods; introducing newbies to their community of members, tactics and ideals, prior to possible recruitment.

Reclaim the Light with Windows 10 - powered by Activision|Blizzard, experience Destiny 2 for the first time on PC through their game community platform, Battle.net (coming soon).

  6. I had planned to pre-order Destiny 2 Limited Edition tomorrow but, with the announcement, the eBay Seller Fairies have worked overtime to snatch up all remaining stock in the UK. Guess I'll be getting the Standard Edition.
  7. Damonke

    Damonke DragonWolf

That's shitty. I've been reading about the game play and I have to say I'm pretty stoked. SC releasing 3.0 around the same time is going to make for some tough decisions.
  8. I have discovered there are still XB1 Collector's copies at GAME - it's a hefty price tag for that messenger bag, but it's the only chance left to get the Limited Edition in some form, before someone swipes it to auction off through eBay. I will also be pre-ordering the PC standard version...

In regards to SC, 3.0 will actually deploy mainly in June, not September when Destiny 2 is due for launch. This allows for a moderate amount of time exploring both games.

  9. Bungie explains its Networking Model for Destiny 2

Though it may come as little surprise, Bungie discussed the Networking Model it intends to use for Destiny 2 in their weekly update, which has NO DEDICATED SERVERS. That said, the old horror of exclusive P2P using consoles has been partly done away with, given the process doesn't actually work properly in Destiny when handling players from around the world.

The full Bungie Weekly Update can be read here.
  10. With E3 2017 this week, we saw a new trailer:

Bungie also listed dates for the Beta for all platforms, and Release for PC that is an atrocious month and a half later

So much for an even deployment...

PC BETA - Late August (most likely two weeks before Console-release)
    PC RELEASE - October 24
  11. Damonke

    Damonke DragonWolf

Double edged sword, I suppose. Yeah, we will have to wait longer but it'll give more time to twiddle around with SC 3.0. I'm hoping to get a couple more upgrades in on my rig, as well. October will work out much better for me timing wise anyways. A lot of field tests and travel in August/September.
  12. In this week's Bungie News Update, the studio has confirmed the period when all of Destiny's content previously restricted to PSN will be made available to 360 and XB1, depending on the rules applied to each expansion.

Though this won't happen until October 2007; most likely after the PC launch, this is a huge reversal from the 12-month delay Activision originally planned, but is not surprising given the tremendous flak the studio has received recently from players and critics alike...

The full BNU can be read here.

  13. This week's Bungie Update did a lot of horn-touting, so I've instead clipped it down to just the important announcement about clan tools:

  14. Damonke

    Damonke DragonWolf

So the betas/release seems to have been pushed up and it is saying the PC beta is in August now. Thinking of opting in?
  15. I have put the PC version on my Christmas list - of course, to do that means they would have to acknowledge purchase :)

I saw this just now on YouTube but, even though it's from Destiny 1, it is hilarious and nothing I've heard before in a match:

PC Beta dates release, 8/28 for pre-orders, 8/29 for open. Lasts until the 31st. I actually enjoyed the PS4 beta, I am really looking forward to the PC version.
  17. A couple of annoucements were made this past week - first, all pre-order customers will receive the "Coldheart" Exotic Trace Rifle. Here is a behind-the-scenes look at its development:

And a short trailer of it in action:

IGN also chatted with Bungie about the Lost Sectors, and how the studio intends to keep gameplay fresh on a weekly basis:

  18. This week’s Bungie News Update discusses some important housekeeping required for the Destiny 2 PC Beta. In the interest of fair play, Bungie has either restricted the functionality or completely blocked certain streaming and communication programs. In our case, therefore, all overlay functions in Discord are not compatible with the Destiny 2 PC Beta.

Please review the article below for more information:

In addition, as of 26th July, leaders are being advised to prepare their Destiny 1 Group or Clan for transition to Destiny 2 functionality. This MUST be completed by 23rd August, or our Dragonwolves Group on Bungie.net will be deleted…

As Gryphon is the Group Leader, the responsibility falls to him. The article below provides full instructions:

Finally, details for PC Beta's content has been released:
    • Opening Story mission, “Homecoming”
    • Team co-operative Strike, “The Inverted Spire”
    • Team competitive mode Countdown, on “Midtown” map (bomb objective - full guide here)
    • Team competitive mode Control, on “Javelin-4” map (CTF)
  19. That's right... it's time for your gratuitous Bungie Weekly Update.

Those who managed to participate in the Console Beta may have noticed the charge rate of Supers (a player's main special ability), Grenade damage, and Power (heavy) ammo drops were really crappy. However, the Test team reports all this has been fixed for the PC Beta.

In lieu of similar issues with Destiny 1, Quickplay and Matchmaking also now use separate systems of player and group statistics, when creating Fireteams for multiplayer, though no word on if this will affect Campaign as well.

Next comes another trailer, showing off what Destiny 2 multiplayer look like:

The final piece of news is Q&A after notes for the communications apps were released last week:

Will these security measures only impact third party applications during the Destiny 2 PC Beta?
No, this will apply to both the Destiny 2 PC Beta and full Destiny 2 PC release on October 24.

How will players monitor FPS performance during gameplay?
Destiny 2 on PC will include an in-game FPS counter.

How will players be able to monitor hardware performance?

Hardware performance monitors will be able to function alongside Destiny 2 PC, but any form of overlay functionality will be restricted.

Will Destiny 2 on PC include a frame rate target option?
Yes, Destiny 2 on PC will include the ability to specify a frame rate upper-limit (via a config file).

Are third-party streaming and communications applications completely broken by this security feature?
No. Players may stream Destiny 2 PC using supported modes within the streaming software (e.g. OBS, XSplit, etc). Communication applications such as Discord and Mumble will work normally except for the overlay of their UI in the game.

Why are streaming, capture or overlay applications being impacted by these security measures?
The methods that some third-party applications use to add features (inserting code into the game client) are the same as some of the methods hackers and cheaters use to disrupt the experience of other players. As a part of our security efforts, we have designed Destiny 2 for PC to resist all attempts from external applications to insert code into the game client.

It is a high priority for us to ensure that Destiny 2 is a safe and fair experience for all players, on all platforms. We remain committed to creating a positive and fair in-game experience in all of our products, and believe that this is a necessary measure in bringing you a great gaming experience in Destiny 2 on PC.

Trials of Osiris starts at the usual time this Friday, before closing again at 2am PT/4am ET on Tuesday. Anybody on XB1 still needing to do Trials milestones should note this is THE LAST of these events, prior to Destiny 2, so finish what you can.
