Not photo shopped....the place is called St. Maarten-Princess Juliana Int'l , if i remember right , the runway is short and almost all planes have to come in really low...

I was in St Maarten in March of 2001 flying the R44 Police helicopter N644PD. I stood on the road underneath a landing 747 1 day, and must say, I felt as if I could touch the plane, and was a bit nervous. But it is higher than it appears. I forgot the website, but the sunset bar, near to where this photo was taken has a web cam that allows you to watch it live everyday. The 747 comes in between 4 and 6 pm every day. and it is an awesome sight to see. Also some fun is when the 74 takes off, you can stand at the end of the runway, and the jet blast is SO strong you have to hold the airport fence to stay put! I know, I tried! Cliff

This is a place that should keep pilots on their
toes; especially the 747's from Europe. The runway
is too short for a 747 takeoff for Europe; they
have to go for a refuel somewhere in the vicinity.

  4. My wife and I went on a cruise that stopped in St Maartens, out of the 5 stops we made - this one was our favorite. Beautiful beaches, casinos, $1.00 Heineken (made available every 50 feet via little bar shacks), cobblestone streets and the architecture was amazing.

We want to go back...but there ain't no way I'm flying in. :D

Gah. Not even for a dollar will I drink Heine. The name itself should warn people!

That's the problem I have with going to Mexico for vacation; no good beer! If they have anything besides Dos Equis or Corona, they have Miller Lite. Miller freekin Lite for chrissakes! I just need to head to Germany or Ireland.

One saving grace is down in Mexico, tequila can be had for next to nuttin.

shouldn't a plane that low be causing some sort of disturbance in the water though?
Not doubting its real, but that must be a really crap place to be on the beach when a plane comes in.
