Something to think about

  1. I found this on my WoW guilds forum...I thought I would share...

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American
sentiment and negativity, we should remember England's Prime Minister
Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his
Parliament members why he believes so much in America, he said:

"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want
in .... and how many want out. Only two defining forces have ever
    offered to die for you:

    1. Jesus Christ
    2. The American G. I.

....One died for your soul, the other for your freedom."

The only problem is that he's not the Prime Minister of the US. I doubt he's going to be in office for much long. Hynch would know when his next re-election bid is.

I dunno. Maybe Tony Blair can come into this country, apply for a Visa, and be made Govenor of, let's say, Louisianna.

    That is correct: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/5322094.stm

Since I don't have access to a daily newspaper I use the BBC's website for my news information. I find that they are quite objective with their news stories, and they focus on issues all around the world.

  12. I like BBC news. I recommend this (and/or other news channels/stations from abroad) to any who have only viewed American news broadcasts...

Well, he did not say exactly that (and also, was not the first to use the general idea either)

    http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/blair.asp

It still makes me wish we could get people in office that spoke as well and directly as he does.

    Great quote regardless.

  14. Funny that....
He is not thought of very 'highly' by many folks in England. And it's not because of the current political climate regarding USA/IRAQ etc...
It has more to do with his campaign promises (and failure to keep), etc...

Just what all the other politicans are guilty of. However, I was watching Face the Nation and after Bob Schieffer's interview with Colin Powell, he gave an update on Evan Bayh *not* running for the Presidency =

"Evan Bayh is a well-regarded, two-term Senator from Indiana but he is not exactly a household name. So when he announced two weeks ago that he was thinking about running for the Democratic presidential nomination, even he knew it was a long shot.

He acknowledged it was a David-versus-Goliath kind of thing, but he remembered that David did pretty well.

True enough, but yesterday Bayh realized why the smart money is usually on the giants — because they are giants — and he quit the race as quickly as he had entered.

"Whether there were too many Goliaths or whether I'm just not the right David, I concluded the odds were longer than I felt I could possibly pursue," he said.

In other words, he took a look, realized he had no chance and decided not to waste his time or the country's.

How refreshing! None of this "I decided I wanted to spend more time with my family," or the catalogue of excuses we've come to expect from usual wanna-bes — or even worse, one of those ego trip campaigns that all involved know is headed nowhere except to get some TV time for the candidate.

Bayh just concluded it wasn't to be and said so.

The one downside is, that is just the kind of straight talk we need more of in politics.

A man so candid about himself and his chances might have had some interesting thoughts on other subjects. In a way, I'm sorry we won't get to hear them."

I think it's important to realize the causes of the hate around the world towards us so that we can, as a country, take proactive steps in repairing these wounds. This current administrative body does not have the strength to pull this off, only try to apply political band-aids to them. I dislike the current affairs in this country, particularily the ineffectiveness of our own government to provide for those who were most in need during the crisis that hit us last year.

What can we do in the meantime? Well, I'm not certain. Right now the Middle East has us between a rock and a hard place. If we move in one direction, then the other side begins to mount pressure against us. Terrorism is about giving the side you're fighting against political and emotional angina. And that's what has happened in the past 3 years.

I don't have the answers. I wish I did, but I do not. I just want to give my family a better life than the one I had, and now that hope seems remote.

  17. After being stationed overseas i know why some do, we are loud americans
that chase thier women and abuse drinking locations. I felt bad about 95% of the places i went too because of us. Same way we would feel about other countries coming here and doing the same.
