KOTOR MMO Annoucement this month

Discussion in 'Upcoming Games Discussion' started by Daleon, 3 Oct 2008.

  1. We might get some screens and video this month. Gawd please rawk, this would be the absolute cure for WoW.

BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic MMO game is set to be 'officially' unveiled later this month, CVG has learnt.

The long-awaited online Star Wars - perhaps the games industry's worst kept secret - is being developed by BioWare Austin, which has been tinkering away behind the scenes on the title for over two years.

Officially the company hasn't admitted to any sort of Star Wars link with its MMO, but EA boss John Riccitiello let slip earlier this year that the RPG developer was in fact working on the online KOTOR, claiming that it is "quite possibly the most anticipated game, full stop, for the industry."

But it looks like the game won't (officially at least) be a secret for long. LucasArts and BioWare look set to lift the lid on a KOTOR MMO within the next 30 days.

Backing up all this is the strongest confirmation yet (other than EA's boss saying it's in the works, of course) from UK newspaper, The Daily Star, of all places.

A column that appeared last Saturday reports that the rag is soon off to San Francisco to "file an exclusive report on the game", after stating that BioWare is working on "a MMO of Knights of the Old Republic".

Look for more in the coming weeks then.

I don't think Ewoks were around during the KOTOR days Mani. Sorry, but probably the best you could be would be a Wookie. (Star Wars Geek Cred!)

This game I'm going to follow like a hound to a fox. I can't wait.

  5. I wanna be Jar-Jar and annoy the hell out of everyone !!!!

If this is as good as the other two games, I may come out of my gaming retirement to play this. Although, I am somewhat skeptical that they could capture the epic nature of the single player games into an MMO.

The worst kept secret in gaming history is coming out.

I want to make some dig at Duke Nukem 4, but it is just too easy.

  9. I would defiantly play this. I would be a dual wielding dual bladed light saber pro.

  13. Yeah, lots of info out today. MMO's have a high miss rate. Its a waiting game for now. It does look like they are taking a safe route though to try and appeal to WoW players. I was hoping for a little more in the graphics department, but I'd rather have a smooth playing game that just a laggy pretty one.

I've read pretty much all of the Old Republic stuff, about 5-6 comic mini-series, the ongoing KotoR, Darth Bane - Path of Destruction, etc. Much of this is new story to the timeline, so I'm not 100% sure I'm happy with that but thats one of the good things about this era, it ranges over thousands of years of history so just about anything could have happened and been forgotten about.

It's a double edged sword though. On one hand you have those who have immersed themselves in the lore of the period. If the Devs take one small turn, their entire universe is forever spoiled. But, you have to appeal to those people as well as those who, like me, haven't completely absorbed all the different material and lore of the period.
