One of my artist friends called to invite me to help him out at the Ronald McDonald house in Durham with a ceiling tile painting project with the kids and their families. I was wanting to do something like this, just hadn't found the right place to help out until he called today.

A child learned how to use scissors for the first time today! I'm so happy for him. His mom was afraid he'd cut himself so she never let him touch scissors before. He's four and...most kids are cutting away by age three. I told mom that was a very valid concern. Then I handed him a pair of child safty scissors and it was so cool to watch. At first he couldn't make a cut with them and said he couldn't cut...then I helped him hold the scissors and showed him how to open and close. He was cutting like crazy and didn't want to stop. He was so proud.

coolest thing ever when you teach a child to use a tool and they take off.

Jupe, it's beautiful. It would make a very cool and unusual parasol. Can you put it on a stick?

Might be able to be put on a stick and stretched like that, but I think it would serve better as a little boy's tagalong blanket :)

Drat. Now I'll have to think of some other diabolical scheme to trick that little boy out of his cool blankie.

I watched someone not die yesterday.

A kid on bicycle went to cross the road at busy intersection right into traffic. Car stopped a couple of feet from him.

Nice to see someone not die.
