  1. It's happening.. IT IS HAPPENING!! ::wipes tear::

  2. Beta starts November 4th.. I've preordered the game so I am automatically enrolled.

I am not really wanting to do any beta testing.. I'll leave that to others.. but I'll probably get sucked in to at least logging in anyway, checking the game out.

I hope this is good! I need jet packness again. :(

  3. A short, pre-beta test run is scheduled for tomorrow at 6:30EST for ~3 hours. They are looking to test some of the core game stuff.

I think I will try it out :^)

  4. Played for a couple hours in the system test for Tribes:Ascend. I like it. But of course it is still Alpha, so things are being worked out.

Got my first MA tonight! Oh yeahhhhhh! :rawr:

How was it (all alpha-ness aside)?

  6. Its ok. Can't say it is great at this point, but there are some issues that need to be adressed to make it feel more like T2 or T1 did. But HiRez seems to respond to tester's input.

The game looks fantastic! Definately a nice graphics upgrade.. so presentation is A+.

It has serious potential, but I doubt it will rekindle the now lost golden age of Jet Pack/Skiing/Vehicular/Class based war gaming we once knew.

Nevertheless.. My blood was boiling while playing this Alpha test :D Still exciting to see a resurrection of the series!

  7. Well I've signed up, but who knows when I'll get a response.

  8. I pre-ordered the game (VIP package) so I am automatically signed up for the beta.

  9. I purchased the vip pack too, 29 bucks, just becuase I had to try this game out. I have many thoughts on it. too numerous to mention at the moment, and I want a little time more with it too. but, I can say this much, I think some of you are gonna be disapointed with two main points, The class progression crap they are gonna pull with Pay to play and purchasing classes, also, the lack of choosing your armor loadout (all armors are preconfigured) and you have to unlock or purchase the different loadouts. As it is in beta at the moment, you start the game with two medium armor loadouts, The soldier and the Ranger. again, more on it all later, If you want to talk a lot about it, find me on Teamspeak.

    swifty

  10. Yeah, some things to balk at if you have preferences against such things, but I'm still having fun. Its really 'Tribes in the 21st Century'... a lot of games are like this now with class progression, weapon unlocks, perk purchases and such.

Doesn't really matter to me though.. I've already bought all the armor classes outright, and will buy up everything else I can when it becomes available. :p

I'll make sure to get on TS when I logon so we can hookup.

This, in my humble opinion, and coming from having much experience in Tribes 1 and 2, is not what I thought they were going to do. I am not in beta so I am only speaking from the descriptions you guys give. But it sounds like they have taken the strengths of the game and tossed them for some of the same baggage that weighs down all the rest of today's games.

  12. Really still too early to say Mani how the overall game is going to play out: it is in beta after all. But like I said - if some of the modern FPS gaming conventions we see in many modern combat games do not fit with what you think Tribes should be, then that may be problematic for some of us Tribes vets.

I personally never cared for them, not since back in the BF2142 days when I first really got hit with weapon and other equipment advancements being introduced. But since that type of convention is here to stay (and since I can afford to just $buy$ my toys in these free-to-play games) I don't fret too much.

Still like being able to jet/ski and Mid-Air disc some peep in the face!! (fueling my addiction)

    =edit=

Umm.. just got done playing half a round of CTF... I'm really freaking enjoying this game... it's really got me. You know where I'll be for FPS for a while. :^D

But didn't you say you purchased all the unlocks? What happens if you don't purchase them? You are then limited to the equipment you can use, right?

I know it is beta, but all the games anymore are micro-transactions, pay-to-play, etc, ad nauseum.

The purity of T1 and T2 has spoiled me.

  14. You can earn the ability to purchase the classes and perks through game-play. You just have to beat up the bad guys a lot, and you will be able to purchase them :^)

Or you can just buy in-game gold to purchase stuff with your crebit card. I've got no problem with that, as I understand this is the new market scheme for play-for-free type games. And I don't mind paying for stuff outright with this game because I like the developer, and I like their game, and I love Tribes.

I'd like to give it a try if you have an extra key. I've been tempted to pull the trigger on this but with all the games on the horizon, there just isn't enough free time to go around. I did watch a game play video of this and I felt an itch to disc some folks in the face. :D

  18. OK, I'll PM the keys to you here :^)

    Just remember: it is beta!
