So... I'm updating my rig...

  1. Try going with NCIX.CA and have the price match it. I actually got them to pay for my M60, once their rebate went through.

NCIX.ca is pretty good. Used them several times. Newegg has a Canadian site but I don't see the deals there that the US one has as often.

For us Canadians, we have to watch carefully what we buy from the US. We get screwed in shipping charges, import duties and taxes even if it's imported. Some things are tax and/or duty exempt but you need to be a customs broker to decipher it all. It's more often better off for us to find a local retailer over a potential deal from the US unless it's a huge discount. One other factor was the exchange rate but that's not much of an issue anymore.

Korn, from what I've seen cry engine leverages hyperthreading pretty well. I intend to get whatever the current i7k is when I upgrade next fall. (Broadwell maybe?).

Also got on to point out that Newegg has a sweet EVGA 780 up for <500 today due to their 13th anniversary.

  4. Yes it is very optimized for multiple processors (which bodes well for me), my biggest weakness in my machine right now is my GTX 660, but I will likely wait till around the Holidays next year to upgrade it. I could use a better mhz of RAM than what I have, but mine has some great timing on it so I am not to worried.

  5. Its like the AT&T commercials. Which is better? 4 or 8 cores? 8!

Heh, yeah 4 cores is really as good as 8 in gaming. Not sure if CR can push SC to make use of more above what the engine already does, even if it did it likely wouldn't give you more than a frame or two. Gaming still comes down to the video card 99%.

  6. Agreed Daleon....I would go with an i5 K chip and put the extra money into a better video card.

  7. oooooooo...............shiny

  9. I will be slowly buying pieces to build my new rig. Right now I am leaning towards this case: Corsair Obsidian 250D

  10. Awwww. So cute. It's almost like a PC case, only smaller. :D

  11. Mini-itx? It looks pretty well made but really limits you on MB options. There aren't usually that many good mini-itx boards and often you over pay for what you get on them.

  12. So, because of pricing and whatnot, I have decided to make the jump up to the maximus vi formula and the i7 4770k.

Conveniently enough, I will be able to reuse my coolermaster 212 evo and all the components.

It'll be interesting to see the differences between my old i3 2120 and the new i7 4770.. and then I can wait on the upgrade of the gpu.
