Battlefield Hardline

Discussion in 'Upcoming Games Discussion' started by Khorneholio, 11 Jun 2014.

  1. Been watching ppl play on twitch some. Gameplay doesn't look nearly as cool as the trailers heh. Game devolves into typical BF gameplay.

  2. I started playing last night and I'm enjoying myself immensely.... but then again, the BF series is far and away my favorite shooter.

I'm disappointed in this. I was hoping to see something closer to the lines of the failed ABP but in a BF style. As it stands, it's just another BF in a new skin. Getting kinda old really.

    Hate to be that guy...buuuuuuuuuut.....
I've been saying this for the past two years.

  5. After playing this for a day I have to say it's definitely a different spin on the old BF formula.

If I had to sum it up it would be a cross between BF4 and Team Fortress wrapped in a cops and robbers motif.

It's tone, aesthetic, and feel is somewhat more vibrant and comic than any of the previous battlefields and the pacing is much quicker and more action oriented. Some will like it better, some worse... but it's definitely not the same.

It's certainly worth an evening or two of free fun. :)

  6. Installing now!

  7. Here's a decent game I had earlier:

  8. This is why im worried about Battlefront.

  9. This is partially why I'm excited about Battlefront.

    -I love Star Wars.

-I also love BF4 and the Frostbite engine.

-I think those 2 great tastes would taste great together.

Also, contrary to what the annoying kid in the video thinks, I don't think it's at all unreasonable to pay $70 for a game that I put several hundred hours into over the course of a year. Even if I pay that each year, that's still some pretty cheap entertainment. While Hardline isn't what I prefer in a shooter as compared to BF4, Visceral Games has given us a competent and entertaining spin on the genre. It's also exceedingly polished for a beta. I've yet to have a single technical error or crash of any kind; though it would have been nice for them to include the recent netcode updates that were added to BF4. They dramatically increase the games accuracy and responsiveness. But I digress....

Considering that, unlike Steam, Origin will let me purchase Battlefront and play it for a full day before deciding if I want to keep it or return it for a full refund... I don't see what I have to lose by giving it an open minded try.

The jury is still out on Battlefront I think the pressure is on to make that an amazing game. If they cookie cutter it into the BF genre it would be a pretty stupid move. I fully to intend to give that game a try to see if they can pull it off.

Let's also be honest about what "beta" means to EA (and many other companies right now not just them) it's just a marketing gimmick. Most of those games are almost fully feature complete and optimized before they do a "beta". They make very few changes and it's pretty much the same game that comes out a few weeks later just with fewer maps.

  11. I don't disagree... but I'll still give credit where credit is due; especially when so many actual release are shabbier than this "beta".

Yea often times the tradeoff is you get a beta you pay for that never exits beta.

  13. I agree with Hamma and Granite; I don't mind the games, but EA has a lot to learn (which they simply have no desire to) about what the community wants in terms of a good gameplay experience. As for Beta, BF3 was the best but, since then, they've gotten so short it feels more like a netcode test than player feedback.

  14. At least the fact that Visceral had this beta FOUR MONTHS before release bodes well for their intentions. It's almost as if they intend to use the feedback they receive for improving the game.

  15. They've been pretty active on the subreddit, too. So they are paying attention.

  16. The devs address the top 10 concerns players had concerning the beta:

Unfortunately, as far as the actual substantive changes on this list, I'm of the opposite opinion on every single one of them. I seem to find as of late that my tastes in shooter mechanics simply do not run with the majority. I love the suppression mechanic, hate fast twitchy movement speeds, and think vehicles were already too weak and certainly didn't need to be gimped even more. :(
