Harry Potter has taken over my soul...

Discussion in 'General Open/Public Discussion' started by Desperado, 20 Jan 2002.

  1. Ok so I went and saw the movie after much arguement. Turns out the movie wasn't too bad at all, I actually enjoyed it a lot. I figured well, the movie was better then I thought so maybe I should read the books, they're possibly better then I expect also...?

    And I read Sorcerer's Stone...

And then I read Chamber of Secrets...

    And then Prisoner of Azkaban...

...and now, I think Harry Potter has taken over my soul

Seriously though, I can't get enough of these books now! They are really good, much better then I could have expected especially since I thought they were "kids" books. However I think people of all ages could read these books and enjoy them. I don't read many books as they mostly bore me, but the Harry Potter books are...different, I guess.

Has anyone else read any of the Harry Potter books or are reading them now? I am currently on chapter 11 of Goblet of Fire and am depressed that I know that once I'm finished with it I'll have to await the release of the fifth book whenever it finally comes out(even though GoF is a huge 735 page book  ). :(

Someone should try and find a HP smilie or even better, a quidditch smilie ;)

Let this be a lesson kids. Magic in any form is bad for you.

  3. Try and get a hold of Oed....

Thank god I am not the only one (grin)

I got the books for my wife...and then I read them.

When I was sick I read the 3rd book in an afternoon. To date I have read them all twice (there are really interesting references to the next books in them, as well as other hints on the story). Almost through GoF for the 2nd time...and get this, my wife is teaching an after school class on the books (grin).

I know they are written for kids (well kinda), but I know more adults that enjoy the books as much as childern.

If you have not read them, do so. They are easy, quick reads. I have respect for the writer, she moves the contect in relation to the age of the main characters (the first book is really adventure based, and the 4th gets into relationships).

I am so glad I am not the only one (grin)

  5. Hey I am glad that I'm not the only one either Oed! :D

Just finished Goblet of Fire and I must say I'm not sure whether I like Prisoner of Azkaban or Goblet of Fire better, they were both extremely good reads.

And so, for now until the next HP book comes out I hope my addiction doesn't cause me to go into convulsions or break out in cold sweats from withdrawl ;)

And I agree with Oed, they are very easy reads, I read all four books in 10 days. I actually read the first two books in a day apiece, but had to slow down for the next two because I had to do the work thing plus they were a tad bit longer.

But for the rest of you.....GO READ HARRY POTTER!

But right now I'm too caught up in the Shannara series!!!!!!!!!!!

AWESOME BOOKS!!!!!!!! So far my fav of the Shannara series is The Elf Queen of Shannara. I'm reading the Tailismans right now.

    :D

You all should read the Shannara series, very interesting and very well written (Terry Brooks)

  15. Personally, I got bored with the Shannara series.

I recommend 2 different series by the same author -
    Glen Cook.
The 2 series are #1. The Black Company, and the second series does not have a 'series name', but all the titles focus around a play on words dealing with metal, so, Schrike and I call this other series by two names, 'The Garrett P.I. Series" (name of the lead character) and 'The Metal Series'.
some of the titles of the 2nd aforementioned series are -
    Sweet Silver Blues
    Dread Brass Shadows
    Red Iron Knights...
    etc...

hmmm...how'd u get bored with them?
lol i didn't get bored till the Druid of Shannara then it was a bit boring at the biggining.
well I still say they are the best books ^_~ hehe

  17. 'twas in Druid that the boredom hit me. ;)
It may have been a 'mood' thing, I cannot state for sure. But if memory serves, it was the same story, same premise, time and again.
