Homeworld: Shipbreakers

Discussion in 'Upcoming Games Discussion' started by Hyncharas, 11 Feb 2014.

  1. So this was lost on me as well but, early last year, the latest rendition of the Homeworld franchise broke ground when some of the lead developers of Relic banded together to make a new RTS. Initially there were two bidders for the IP, between Blackbird and Gearbox, where the latter ultimately won out; however, after THQ folded, a deal was made where Blackbird would develop as they possessed the majority of the games' original source code and content.

Shiprebreakers is powered by Unity3D and a precursor to the evacuation of the Kushan from their homeworld, Kharak, telling the story of the mothership's creation after discovering the Khar-Toba shipwreck. Whilst very little is known about its current state, in comparison to HW and HW2: Cataclysm, it is a ground-based RTS featuring no space combat but still utilises the limited resources and research tree system of the other titles.
