The reviewer seems to be confirming the ability to destroy bridges, which I'm glad they've included; makes for some interesting tactical choices. The bit about the environmental warning system. Be an interesting scenario if you could see birds flying out of the woods indavertently warning you the enemy is about to emerge into the open.

Bit of a rehash but a few intereting bits.

Preview

We saw some early code of what is to be hailed ‘Game of the Year’. Continuing on the battlefield series, which started in World War II with Battlefield 1942, then progress to the early 1970’s with Battlefield Vietnam, and is now modern day warfare in Battlefield 2.

The first thing I noticed was the wall of stats I was presented with once it logs onto the player server. In BF2 EA have introduced a world wide stats system, so everyone can see how leet they actually are. It also shows preferred map, kit and vehicle as well as team stats, such as how many vehicles repaired, lives saved. This team side of the game is new to BF2 and looks to be crucial in good game play, and to reward the Medics and Engineers in the team, points are now rewarded for their roles too.

The team play is also apparent in game, with a simple method of setting up a squad within a team, appointing a commander to the squad, and being able to communicate on a squad level, as well as global and team speak.

Like C&C Generals this has the United States, China and MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition)

The basic kits have grown to; Assault, Antitank, Engineer, Medic, Special Forces, Support and Sniper. A new feature of running (double tap the ‘w’) allows units to clear an area fast, though depending on the kit, depends on how far they can run in a single burst. Whilst running you cannot fire. Can also set most weapons from burst fire to single shot fire. If you are near a grenade when it goes off, but out of the damage radius, you can still suffer from shell shock, where the screen goes blurry and your motion is slower. Also when heavily damaged you move slower. The RH zoom now looks down the barrel of the weapon, with no cross hair.

In BF2 you won’t find ammo boxes or medic lockers hanging about, so you will need to have a support unit and medic in your team. Support can drop ammo bags, that will restock players, and medics can heal, and sometime revive players.

Vehicles look amazing, and are all the modern combat vehicles. All passengers can fire their primary weapon while in a vehicle, and in some can switch to other weapons, such as a ‘nade spam from a black hawk. Another nice feature is the ability to crouch while in the MG nest on the tanks. All combat vehicles have counter measures which will make for a much more intense firefight.

The new render engine makes a beautiful environment, and allows for many hiding places, as well as natural vehicles traps, such as swimming pools. It also allows for destructible objects, such as C4ing a bridge. While testing out a nice sniper position on the edge of a construction crane I noticed that when firing into a glade of trees that birds flew out of the trees, this environmental warning system will play key in the game too.

The game is set to launch June 30th and the EA Cup is set to start 22nd July, and from what I have been told, it will be bigger and better than the BF:V EA Cup with the final to be played online same as last year.

I am very eager to see and play this game. I have such high hopes for this and what we could do with it!

This is getting boring....

My suggestion to the admins is that we add a Battlefield 2 General Discussion area to the forums to replace the PS one and put all the BF2 stuff in there. This will be so as to not clutter the Upcoming Games Discussion section with endless previews of a game, which obviously they plan to release to us as painfully as possible.

Hey Hynch as the name states this forum is meant for "Upcoming Games" which BF2 is classified as

Either way there will be bf2 forums soon.
